• I can't define a setting for VGA when using a Mini-DP to VGA Adapter
Most Mini-DP to VGA adapters cannot support a Pixel Clock higher than 165 MHz. Most of them are Mini-DP 1.1 compliant, and use at most two lanes at 2.7Gbit speed. This means that resolution over 1600x1200@60Hz or 1920x1200@60Hz are almost not possible. Only lower resolution will allow a decent, not flickering display, on CRT monitors.

(Thanks to D.G. for this one)
